The Athens International Airport (ΑΙΑ) is one of the most modern airports in Europe and has received several distinctions for the safety, the quality of the services provided to the passengers and the visitors, as well as for the excellent organization of its operations and services.
AIA shareholders are the Greek State, the Canadian Investment Fund, PSP Investments and Copelouzos Group.
In 2019, ΑΙΑ was honored once again by the airlines as it received the first place among the airports with annual traffic exceeding 20 million passengers in Routes Europe 2019 conference. In addition, for year 2019 AIA was awarded Best Airport in Europe in the category 15-25 million passengers for Customer Satisfaction by ACI World.
In March 2018, the Athens International Airport was voted as the Best Airport in Southeastern Europe, in the framework of the annual Skytrax World Airport Awards, the largest international study measuring passengers’ satisfaction.
Overall, during the year 2022, the airport’s traffic recovered to 90% of the all-time high record of 2019, when it had reached 25.6 million. In 2021, AIA recorded profit before tax of €158.8 million.
The financial closing for the 20-year extension of the concession agreement of the Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” was consummated on February 22nd 2019, with the payment of a total consideration of €1.403 billion euros by the AΙΑ.
