Copelouzos Group was founded in 1972 by Dimitrios Ch. Copelouzos. The initial activity was the manufacturing of buses in two industrial units located in the area of Thiva, 80 km from Athens. By the end of the 70’s the Group had supplied the Greek market with 30% of the urban buses used in Athens and 25% of all tourist and intercity buses of the country.
In 1975, Copelouzos Group developed alliances with international corporations active in the production of track vehicles and, at the same time, created the largest automobile retail chain in Greece.
In the late 70s, the Group invested and developed a network for the supply of excavation equipment, earthmovers and road rollers.
Over this decade, the Group expanded its activities in the area of electrification and signalling of railway networks, undertaking the first relevant project in Greece, the telecommunications of the Athens – Thessaloniki railway line for the Greek Railways Organization (OSE). Many similar large-scale projects have followed since then.
By the end of the 1970’s, the Group had already become active in the project management and construction of power plants for the PUBLIC POWER CORPORATION (PPC), a fact that set the foundations for the Group ’s significant development in the energy sector. As a result, a number of Diesel – Hydroelectric – Combined Cycle – Lignite power plants were constructed for PPC during the following thirty years.
PROMETHEUS GAS S.A. was founded in 1991 in Athens. Copelouzos Group holds 100% of the share capital of PROMETHEUS GAS S.A.
The main scope of PROMETHEUS GAS S.A. is the import and marketing of natural gas. PROMETHEUS GAS S.A. has constructed the largest part of the high pressure infrastructure for the natural gas transportation as well as the lignite fired Power Plant for PPC at Meliti, Florina.
Today, core business areas of the Group in the energy sector are the marketing of natural gas, the electricity production and trading and the renewable energy sources.
Moreover, significant activities of the Group are the project management of large scale energy projects (gas and oil transportation pipelines and power plants) and the supply of energy equipment (Generating Sets, Cogeneration equipment).
Concessions constitute another important business sector of the Group, such as most significant the Athens Metropolitan Exhibition center, located near the Athens International Airport.The Group holds a strong and diversified portfolio of strategic investments, such as Infrastructure Projects, most important of them are the Athens International Airport and the development and management of 14 Greek regional airports.
Apart from the above, the Group possesses a significant position in Real Estate assets, owning one of the largest companies in this sector in Greece.
